If I apply and am not admitted, can I get back my application fee?
No, the $30 application fee is non-refundable.

How do I submit the application fee?
The application fee is payable only in the Parent/Guardian Portal.  Parents will be notified by email that then can create a login and password.  They can then make payments and submit their electronic signature (and submit optional financial aid information).

Can I apply to multiple campuses?
No, you may only apply to one campus, but you may select two cluster options.

Do I need to submit a confirmation signature?
No, we will have a parent/guardian portal for payment and signatures.

How do I know if my high school class meets the cluster prerequisites?
Since admissions decisions and clusters are administered at the campus level, please contact the campus directly if you have any questions about prerequisites.

What is a CASSID?
This is your student identification number.  If you don't know this number, please ask you school registrar or counselor.

I submitted an application last year, can I use my same login ID?
No.  We have a new application system this year, so you will need to create a new login and password.

Do you accept late materials?
Due to the competitive nature of our program, and to create a fair application process for all, we do not accept late materials or payments.  Materials must be submitted by the posted deadline (2017: February 17th, 2017) for application review.  Late materials will not be received and will render your application incomplete and will not be reviewed for admission.

My school is on holiday week of deadline?
Many schools have holiday schedules during January and February, plan ahead and speak with your teachers and transcript officials early as to avoid school closures.  We do not accept late materials.

My teacher forgot to submit letter of recommendation?
Request your letters of recommendation early and remind your teachers of impending deadlines.  Applications without one or both letters of recommendations are incomplete and will not be reviewed for admission.

What should I write in my application essay?
The essay is a personal statement about yourself, therefore there are no right answers.  You tell us what you want us to know about you, simple as that.

Is there a word limit to the essay?
Yes, there is a 500 word limit.

Is there a word limit to the cluster choice essay?
Yes, there is a 500 word limit, for both cluster options.

Will financial aid affect the outcome of my application?
No.  The reviews of admission and financial aid are done separately

Does financial aid cover application fee and deposit?
No.  Financial aid is only available to in-state students and covers only up to $3,370 (2017).  The application fee and deposit are not covered and must be paid by the student.

When will I know if I've received financial aid?
Financial aid notification will come with your admission decision.

Where do I send my financial aid application and supporting materials?
Since financial aid is decided by COSMOS Statewide upon admissions recommendations of the faculty, all financial aid documentation will be sent directly to Statewide.  Please see here for the mailing address.

What are official transcripts?
Official versions are most often sent directly by your high school counselor or registrar, through snail mail directly to the COSMOS program you are applying (details provided in the application). Your school may also give you an official version of your transcript inside a sealed envelope for you to send yourself. If they do, do not open this envelope, it will make the transcript no longer official.

Where do I mail the transcripts?
You will then send transcripts directly to the COSMOS program you are applying.  We do not accept emailed transcripts, unofficial transcripts, or opened official transcripts.

Do you accept electronic transcripts?
Some schools use an online service like Parchment to send transcripts.  These online transcripts are accepted as official if sent from your school to COSMOS.  The Parchment site will let you know if your school uses this service or not.  If not, you will need to order them directly from high school registrar or counselor.  Plan to order these early in the application process or even before.  Late transcripts are not accepted.

What is postmarked?
Official transcripts (see above) and check payments must be at the post office and stamped and mailed by the posted deadline.  This means the post office must receive the materials by the deadline, not necessarily the campus admissions.  Check your local post office for posted hours, waiting to submit your materials until the last day to submit may be hindered by post office closing hours.

Two letters of recommendation from your high school (or middle school) teachers—STEM teachers recommended; counselors or other leaders that can speak to your academic achievement acceptable

What information will I need for requesting a teacher recommendation?

When do I ask my teacher to submit a letter of recommendation?
Teachers don’t like surprises, so please be sure to seek out your teachers soon, and notify them early that you will be applying to COSMOS and to look for an email requesting a their letter.  Please be sure to provide the teacher plenty of time to fill out the letter.  Again, check your school calendar to make sure that your school is not on winter/ski break during the week applications are due.  Late letters of recommendation will not be accepted and could result in your denial to COSMOS.  This is your responsibility to provide ample time for your busy teachers!

How will teachers submit a letter of recommendation?
In the online application you will provide the name and email address of your teachers who will write you a letter of recommendation.  Teachers will then be notified by email that you have requested a letter of recommendation for COSMOS.  Teachers will submit their letters electronically by uploading a  .pdf document.

Yes, you can see if a letter has been submitted on your login check list.

Will my teacher be able to upload their letter of recommendation?
